AGSU Female Soldiers- Necktie vs. Necktab – Clearing the Confusion
Army Directive 2025-18 caused some understandable questions. Some read it to mean the AGSU necktie was eliminated for female Soldiers. We confirmed and clarified the intent with the Army Uniform Board.
✅ The AGSU necktie is still the issued item for female Initial Entry Soldiers.
✅ The necktie OR necktab is required with the Class B long-sleeve shirt and the Class A coat (with either the long-sleeve or short-sleeve shirt).
✅ Neither is worn with the Class B short-sleeve shirt. [Not true – the directive said the necktab is optional with the Class B SS shirt. The question then comes as to what the DA Pam says about wearing a tie with the Class B SS Shirt – we need to look that up ]
✅ The necktie is always authorized; the necktab is an optional purchase item if chosen.
The intent of AD 2025-18 was only to make the necktab optional in lieu of the necktie.
Wording from the Directive: The neck tab is required for wear when the long-sleeved shirt is worn without the ASGU Class A coat. It is also required for wear when the short- and long-sleeved shirts are worn with the AGSU Class A coat. The neck tab is optional when the short-sleeved shirt is worn with the AGSU Class B uniform.
