Marlow White's swords and sabers have ceremonial blades. As such, they are built to strict military regulations to be used in drills, ceremonies, and displays. These blades are of the highest quality but are not sharpened for use as a weapon.
Army Saber/Sword Lengths
Appendix F of FM 3-21.5 calls for a 31" blade length. The 31" is probably more of an historical requirement, likely from when sabers were used for fighting. Today, Army sabers and swords are strictly ceremonial, so the length today is determined so that the tip of the saber is at the bearer's ear at the "Carry Saber" position.
For more guidance on how size sabers and swords, see our How to size Army Swords/Sabers page.
