20 August 2008 -- Based on the ALARACT message today, we are not certain about what the Military Honors uniforms will look like. In particular, we have 2 possible changes to the current packages:
a. Jr. Enlisted (PV1 to SPC) will wear a plain trouser without the braid. The ALARACT specifically exempts the Old Guard and has the Jr. Enlisted wear trousers with braid for uniformity. We are quite certain the Military Honors programs will match the Old Guard standard.
b. The new ASU replaces the large 1/2" diagonal service stripes with smaller "hash marks." We are uncertain about how the Old Guard will respond to this change. We do know that the coats will likely fade around the large service stripes so that the fade lines will likely be visible if the large stripes are replaced on coats that have been in use for some time.
c. The ASU has Jr. Enlisted wearing berets. Commanders can allow all Soldiers to wear berets with the ASU for uniformity. We are quite certain that the Old Guard will retain the service cap for all ranks. Accordingly, we expect the Military Honors program to retain service caps.
d. At some point, the plain white shirt will be replaced by the new herringbone cloth white shirt. We should have these new shirts available beginning in October 2008.
For now, we are keeping our Military Honors packages as they were prior to the ALARACT Message. Contact Tim if you have some specific guidance to how the change impacts the Military Honors program.

Long-Distance Fitting Services: Marlow White can assist in fitting remotely using basic height and weight data for most Soldiers with about 95% accuracy, just as we do for the vast majority of our retail customers. Depending on the size of the order and the location, we can also send a try-on batch of uniforms and/or one of our staff members to assist. We much define the scope of such services and quote them separately, if desired, so please contact us.
Alteration Services: All uniforms will require basic alterations:
Hemming trousers or slacks
Hemming coat sleeves
Attaching soutache to the sleeve
Attaching the button strip to male coats
Attaching service stripes and chevrons
Other tailoring may be required, such as taking in waists, taking in sides, adjusting arm pits, lowering collars etc., depending on the Soldiers’ body shape. We offer separately priced alteration services; however, we must quote these services separately. We recommend the use of a local professional tailor for your alteration services as your primary option.

With the advent of the new Army Service Uniform, we are seeing indication of new vendors selling uniforms not certified by Natick and possibly using non-certified cloth that can vary in color. The NG Military Honors Program has several unique components -- namely the use of the short sleeve white shirt, the unique features of the ceremonial belt, and the use of male braid on the female slack.
Finally, regardless of Natick-certification in the past, color creep has occurred over the years in the specified "Goldenlite" among various vendors' trouser braid, sleeve braid, soutache, chevrons, ceremonial belt braid, and hat braid. In the past, the NG Military Honors Program has insisted that the "Goldenlite" color of all of these components be consistent. For these reasons, we highly encourage the submission of samples.
